Cooker Hood Extraction - Need ducting

I have just moved into a new flat that has a chimney type cooker hood extractor. The thing is it just passes the air through a filter and doesn't expel it to the outside. I am looking to put ducting in and run it from the top of the chimney hood along my wall to an outside vent. I can run the ducting easy enough but does anyone know where i can get some metal box section that i can put over the ducting that looks like the square box section that rises from extract hoods?
I hope this email makes sense to someone as i am struggling to explain it.
Cheers

Can you not run the ducting between the ceiling and floor above?
If you need stainless steel box section it will not be at all cheap!0 -
I don't think i can as the above flats floor joists run across the room in the other direction.
I thought that people must do this all the time. Where do other people exhaust there kitchen hoods to?0 -

Outside usually though plastic ducting that is approx 4" x 2" section, available from any good plumbers merchant or B&Q etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
But would that not look rotten? I would have a hood with a 2 foot stainless steel chimney flue going up and then turning into plastic pipe as it takes a right angled bend on its way to the outside wall.0

Well if the joists are running in the wrong direction and you want external extraction, you could disguise it or run it for the length of the wall etc. It is often run across the top of wall units, so not seen. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
