New Smart Samsung TV disappointment...

I set up my new Samsung 40" UE40H6400 Tv today and am a bit disappointed. it doesn't feel any bigger than my 37" Panasonic and the picture seems inferior (Ive altered the settings and still not great)

I've had the Panasonic LCD about 8 years, no problems but wanted a larger screen and Smart features.

Am i just struggling to adjust to a new TV or is picture quality worse nowadays and I'm being fussy? I'd welcome some thoughts from people who know about these things

They take a few days to settle down. I've got two Samsung Smart TVs now, a 40" for the bedroom (same model as yours) and a 48" for the living room, and remember feeling the same at first. The newer TVs have a much thinner frame than older ones, hence why you don't think it's any bigger. My 40" is exactly the same physical size as the 32" it replaced, but obviously the screen is larger.

37"-40" is not a lot bigger only 17% bigger viewing area

(40"-48" is 44%)

Smart features a £10 NOWTV box would have done much of them.

True re size, i just didn't want a giant one but am wondering if i should return it and get a 48" so i can enjoy the size more? How big a difference does it make in your opinions? i like the easy access net content, thats a definite bonus

It depends whether you want to upgrade to the 4K UHD as in my opinion this looks much better on the bigger 48" screen. But having said that, I don't have a problem viewing HD on the 40" screen. It's a decent quality tv for the money. I paid less than £400 for mine complete with a 5 year guarantee from John Lewis.

Have you turned off all the anti-features such as digital enhancement and motion processing. Turn off the picture auto dimming as well.

yes ok fightsback. i thought it might make more of a difference than it did. my mistake. i clearly didnt do my homework well enough...

While it's not a massive advancement in size, the picture quality should be better. When I upgraded, I was amazed with the difference. Like others said though, check all the settings. Certain settings I hated, for example 'Tru Motion' (this is what LG call it, anywa)

The larger the TV the further back you need to sit, BIL bought a monster TV years ago and was so big they had to rearrange the room.

Watching it though it was hard to see the show because all i could focus on was each pixel on the screen.

So close you can see each pixel. You have gone up from a 37 - 40 but the same resolution, so the pixels are just bigger.

Don't buy a new TV because of the "smart" features. Half of them will stop working after 2 years because the manufacturer will not upgrade them.

Buy a NowTV or a Amazon FireTV stick to make you existing TV smart.

im getting used to it . and realised im just being ungrateful. it's a good tv. i dont need a whopper

the 5 year guarantee means hopefully any problems will be fixed
