Switched suppliers on USwitch (Gas/Elec) - not receiving gas bills
Options
Hi All,
Looking for some advice, as I was not able to find any other post on this forum that corresponds to the problem I have.
In a nutshell, I moved houses and decided to stay with the Gas/Elec supplier I had in my former rented property (NPower).
A few months after moving in to my new rented property, I received an email from Noddle (Credit Rating Agency) encouraging me to "save money" by switching providers through USwitch.
I decided to change suppliers for both Elec/Gas and signed up with Scottish Power. USwitch said they would take care of everything, and all I had to do was pay for NPower's final bill, which I did.
6 months down the line, I realised that I was being debited for Electricity, but not for Gas. I contacted Scottish Power and they told me that they were NOT supplying Gas to the property, and that I was not a "Gas Customer". They suggested I contact NPower, which I did. NPower told me that they had closed the account, and were no longer supplying Gas to the property. I left it there and for the past 18 months, I have not received a gas bill.
This came back to mind today, so I decided to to call the meter point reference number to find out who my supplier was: and they have told me that I do not have a supplier, and that I can just sign up with a new provider.
My question - should I pay the new supplier for the Gas used since switching suppliers? I am liable to back pay 18 months worth of gas bills (Citizen Bureau Website is unclear on this matter). I have tried to get this problem sorted, but it seems to me like no one wants to "own" the gas that is currently being supplied.
Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.
Many thanks all!

Hi dominic77, same here I switched from NPower and no gas bills from new supplier, they have told me NPower is the gas supplier. Gas account closed and paid off with NPower.????????????????????0

How long has this been going on for and what do you plan to do about it?0

Do not know what to do, I have tried to pay NPower but my account is closed? six months now. Awaiting comments and advice from other posters. I have overpaid my new provider so if a large gas bill falls on my doorstep I will be able to pay it off.0

You have used gas and for 18 months ignored the fact that you where building up a debt no matter who the supplier was .0

Thanks for the insight and for pointing out the obvious. I am not arguing about whether or not I should pay the bill, I am trying to find out who I should pay the bill to, and what I need to do to get this processed.0 -

Hi Hengus - thanks for the link. I called that number earlier today and they told me that I did not have a current supplier, and that I was free to choose a new supplier. However, this does not really help as I am not sure who I should be paying, for the 18 months worth of gas I have used.0
