Old PPI, could i still claim?

Hello,

Wonder if anyone could give me any advice

I took out an unsecured loan in early 2004 and was told at the time that having PPI would help my loan application, so think this would give me grounds to complain about it being unfairly sold.

I don't have any paperwork remaining for the loan so don't know the account number or details etc.

The loan was paid off in 2007, is it likely i'd be able to get the loan details from somewhere and then use them to make a complaint?

Or have i missed a deadline or other cut off that would stop me from taking this further

It is grounds for complaint but its one of the weakest complaints going. (lack of evidence to support allegation).

Your loan details are not in the public domain. However, the lender would hold details on that debt still.

  • Thanks for answering, there are a couple of other reasons I think I have grounds to complain but just needed to know if I'd still be able to
  • The other problem you have is that the only statute breached would be the Misrepresentation Act and, as dunstonh say, you cannot prove it.

You are therefore unable to ask FOS to look at your case unless whoever sold the policy voluntarily submits to it jurisdiction

If you can get hold of the original credit agreement and it shows the unsecured loan was set up as a single, upfront premium you can base your complaint on this reason.
Contact the lender's PPI helpline or send a SAR to locate the relevant information/
