Hello
I have been using IE9 for a while now & recently saw that Microsoft is no longer supporting it which would now risk Malware infecting my computer. I cannot download the newer versions of Explorer because I use Vista as my O/S. This was confirmed when I tried to download IE11.
I have now installed Google Chrome & also Firefox (I have made Firefox my default browser). However, I seem to have a few glitches with them & need some advice.
My default media player on my computer is Real player.
When I wanted to download videos on IE9 the download link would appear in the TRHC of the screen & I would just click on it. In Chrome no link appears & I can’t download. How do I get the download link to work?
The same applies to Firefox. However, In addition most of the time when I try to view video on Firefox I get a blank screen with an icon in the middle saying plugin required. I click on this & nothing happens. How do I solve this & what is a plugin.
Thanks

A plugin is an extra that plugs in to the main component .
Likely to be Adobe Flash Player >> See Firefox addons get addons .0 -
in FF, you need to instal the flashplayer plug-in. You might need to straight to the adobe site (from FF) to download it......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
errr, why are you still using RealPlayer?
Chrome will need a plug-in as well to play Flash (I assume that's what is not working), however it does block Flash content by default0 -

I am not that confident with computers so i take the view if it aint broke don't fix it. However, with MS no longer supporting IE9 i have had to change. So will be grateful for a very easy to follow way to solve this.

IE9 is still supported on Windows Vista, because (as you found out) it can't be upgraded further.
From Microsoft's page here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/lifecycle#gp/Microsoft-Internet-ExplorerBeginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates, as shown in the table below:
Windows Vista SP2: Internet Explorer 9
Which isn't to say that Firefox etc. aren't better browsers for other reasons, but if you still need IE9 for some things, it is still supported by Microsoft for a little longer.
Note that Vista itself goes out of support on 11 April 2017, so you only have 15 months or so left of supported life.0 -

Thanks for the info. I know about Vista going next year & i will have to upgrade. Think that's for another day dreading it.0 -
I can now view videos on Firefox. Don’t ask me how I did it I think I managed to update something called Flash which is good going for a Technophobe like me.
However, no matter what I try I still can’t download videos on Firefox or Chrome. Could the problem be my operating system Vista?
Any advice appreciated getting very frustrated.

On firefox, top right corner three horizontal bars, click, add ons, type video downloader into the search window, choose one and install0

I run Vista and when the banks stopped allowing IE9 access to their systems I moved over to Chrome with no issues. Chrome now puts up a message saying it will soon no longer be supported with Vista, meaning the banks are likely to follow suit soon after. It looks like I'll need to try another browser (FF?) or update the operating system.
Ba humbug.
