Got a a Fiesta ST (07) with an engine noise, two places now have taken a look/listen and both suggested its a big end knock

So looking for an engine, a reconditioned one or refurb/rebuild this one in south east (Berkshire) area - as a complete package, fitted etc - not just a bare engine

Does anyone have any recommendations for such companies, which they have used, please ?

Avoid Heathrow Engine Centre if they are still going.

When it comes to engines cheapest isn't always best.

I would probably source an engine from a salvage car, preferably hit right up the back end, I would probably buy the entire car.

Then get it fitted and sell off what I could on eBay and weigh the rest in.

Although despite This Post indicating all going to court - the RECONDITIONED ENGINES LTD web site is still up and touting for business

You could always try taking the sump off and fitting some new big-end shells as they are softer than the crank so may have worn and crank may have some life left in it. How has a big-end gone; its rare these days? Lack of oil changes? run with low oil level? high mileage?

Dont think you can on this engine plus if its knocking i think the damage will be done.
A smashed car with good engine is always the best course of action as suggested i think.
With modern engines its the labour costs and being responsible for any warranty work that causes many garages to say no and keep to fitting simple consumables to keep their businesses solvent.

You would think the softer bearing material would be worn yet so often the crank is found to need a regrind to the next size.
Not as common but with a neglected engine or one thats thrashed too often then big ends do fail.

Bob, try and find an old school local garage that have been going for years and see what they say.
Taking your engine out and getting the crank reground and possibly even the bores bebored, new pistons will be required for that but you get back an essentially brand new engine.

Once you start stripping you will never stop, though it is possible the only wear is to the big end bearings and the rest of the engine is fine.

But modern Ford petrol engines are pretty bulletproof.

I would be concerned that you might be trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse.

Well, at last its back on the road ....

Had to DIY it (apart from actual re-build)

Engines been in and out twice now !

1st time was an engine from a scrapper on ebay - but after fitting turned out to be just as noisy as original !!
So that engine went back to supplier and got a refund
( power of ebay - maybe ? - couldn't see that happening with a normal scrapper)

2nd time, original Engine was rebuilt, new shells, thrust bearings, clutch etc etc - company found via ST owners club

Now running as smooth as silk !

    EDIT:
Theres a problem with the above URL when its posted here --- that space after the A5% shouldn't be there ?
    Edit 2:
I'm unable to correct the URL here - but it does work if you can be bothered to copy and paste it out, then delete the space after the A5%

    New URL
    http://!!!!!!!.com/zkxp55k - was going to post a tiny url but seems they are not allowed - replace so !!!!! with t i n y u r l - without the spaces

Posting a simple link turned out out to be more hassle than I was expecting
