How to sell house while abroad

Hi,

My wife and I are selling our house. Actually, I am working in Australia, while my wife will be selling the house and then joining me.

However, the house is totally in my name.

How will this work in terms of the legal paperwork with the solicitors? I imagine that my wife can post the papers to me to sign and return, that shouldn't be a problem.

My concern is that in the past when I have sold a house, the solicitors insisted that I bring in some identification before they started working on the sale. I had to do this in person. Something about new money laundering regulations.

How will this work if I am on another continent?!

I'm sure many others will have dealt with this situation before? Any advice would be welcomed

    Anyone?! :j
  • I too am facing a house sale whilst out of the country. I really don't know how this will work - can anyone help? My flat (for sale) is in the UK and I am due to go abroad in 6 wks for at least 12 months. Can a solicitor be given rights to sign in my absence?
