in Cutting tax
Hello all
Have always been able to find all paperwork for tax return in the past however it seems we're unable to locate husband's P45 (he moved to a new NHS Trust 1 March 2015). He does have his final pay slip from his old employer though. As we're usually very organised with the paperwork I'm wondering if his new Trust haven't actually given the P45 back to him.
That aside, if it doesn't turn up can we use the figures from his final pay slip from his old Trust? We have the P60 from the new Trust so all is fine there.
We've completed the return using these figures (but haven't submitted it yet) and the tax amount for him to pay was more than I expected, hence not submitting. We own a property that we rent out and the rental property figures are split 50/50 which usually results tax for each of us to pay which are pretty much the same. This year it's £280 for me to pay and £385 for him, normally any difference between the two is only £10/£20 or so.
Any help appreciated here. Thank you.

Does the P60 not show previous employer pay and tax details?
You could try calling the tax office and see if the final payslip details match what the employer returned.0 -

Unfortunately it doesn't, the previous employment details section shows nil. Actually I hadn't even noticed that part, I think because neither of us has changed employer in the last 15 years so we've never needed this bit before.
May well have to try calling them, he tried to ring this morning but didn't get answered before he had to hang up.0 -

Best to call just before 8.0 -
As the figures for the old employment are not on the P60 the P45 was not applied by the new employer. This suggests that the new employer probably used the emergency tax code which may well have resulted in an under-deduction of tax for that year. The only way to check this is if you can give the full figures from the last payslip old employment and the P60 new employment. Figures needed would be total taxable gross, total tax paid and tax code from both and the week or month number from payslip.0
