Do I need an electrician to replace light fittings?

We're going to refurbish our house in summer, but I can no longer stand the ancient hallway light fittings blowing bulbs constantly, so husband has accepted my idea that we just get them replaced now so we can see! An electrician has told us it's the fittings, not the wiring, that is the problem, when he did an electrical survey.0

I asked specifically why the bulbs were blowing and he said it's because the fittings are old (the four hallway lights are all the same type and probably 30+ years old) and the bulbs don't sit properly in their sockets anymore, which is true. You can get them in, but they feel a bit loose, whatever you do. Seems entirely plausible to be given the age of the fittings.0

Nearly all my light fittings are 30+ years old, and the bulbs don't sit properly in some of them. I don't get bulbs blowing, though. Maybe they're just cheap light fittings that are faulty.0

Maybe you just need to stop buying your bulbs at the pound shop!0
