Hi All
I have two current accounts and wish to switch two Direct Debits over. These two Direct Debits are utilities and I can do this online.... my query is, once I submit the revised DD, does this take over from the existing one, or do I also have to cancel the DD at the old bank??

My experience is that the 'old' DD is automatically cancelled, or at least not taken, once the new one comes into effect.
Belt & braces would be to cancel the old ones yourself in online banking, once the new ones had paid out;)0 -
excellent thanks for the quick response!0

Sometimes the old Direct Debit will remain active, but not used. Sometimes it will be cancelled. It seems to vary from one organisation to another. Direct Debits that haven't been used for thirteen months will die a natural death anyway.
When you do the switch manually it can be a bit tricky determining which account the Direct Debit will be taken from. Some originations will action a change immediately, others will only do it after your next payment has been made.
I recently switched two Direct Debits manually. BT took payment from the new account, Capital One took payment from the old account.
Even using the bank account switch service isn't without problems.
I switched a bank account recently. For some reason my Santander credit card wasn't paid from the old account or the new one and I've been landed with a £12 late fee. Obviously I will get that refunded.0
