Posting cheques to branch

Options
I have an old batch of paying in slips and prepaid envelopes for a YBS (ex-Egg account). This has made dealing with the odd cheque fairly easy.

IIRC in the past the major banks used to permit posting cheques to the branch (saves time, queuing etc.), but the few websites I looked at seem to be silent on that with the exception of Nationwide which provides a form to include.

I read in the paper recently that Barclays tried to return a cheque to a customer who posted it to them, but later backtracked.

What experiences have you had with your bank/building society?

Regularly post cheques to Metro Bank and Tesco bank with no issues.

There is no form/paying in slip for Metro Bank so I just write on the back "Please pay into account number x".

  • I post cheques to my Barclays bank or drop them in the paying in slot without queuing, never had an issue
  • That shouldn't be a problem. However if the cheque goes missing in the post then obviously the bank have no way to pay it in. Depending on how much it's for you might be better off dropping it in yourself!

And with Tesco it's a free post address although you need to supply your own envelope

Many banks will allow you to pay in at the Post Office.
