No i havent done it myself,didnt say i did. I have stood there watching it being done on my car
£3 for a bush (ok not pennies but pennies to trade!) over £50 for an arm +labour. Not very money saving
oh and i didnt suggest the OP jacks up their car and starts removing parts, just to question it if they ended up having to pay,as most garages take the throwaway parts option which isnt very mse especially for what is essentially a piece of rubber
If you'd ever had to remove an arm, set up the press, press the knackered bush out, clean up the bush housing area ready to press in a new bush, press in the new bush, then refit the arm, then you'd know that the time spent on all of those actions makes fitting a new arm, complete with all new bushes, ready to fit, IS very often the moneysaving option.0 -
One small point that might be relevant.
When people are saying the subframe is causing the creaking but others are saying the lower wishbones.
To replace the lower wishbones on a mk3 Clio you have to remove the subframe first to get at the bolts.
You can see them but the gap is too narrow to get a spanner on them.
I wonder if that might explain when people are reporting the creaking was caused by the subframe?
I can't really see a subframe bush causing a creaking noise over speedbumps.
Just my opinion and all that, but consider the Mk3 Mondeo when the rear subframe bushes go it leads to wayward handling, the rattling noise that some complain about is usually the rear shocks (or their mounts can't remember which off hand)0 -

And that's assuming the bush is replaceable at all.
We had a very similar noise on a Mitsubishi Colt at a similar age and slightly lower mileage. It was one of the lower wishbone bushes failing, only they were apparently cast directly into the arm on production, so the arm effectively was the outer sleeve of the bush. When the bonding failed between the arm and bush, they creaked.0 -
