  • Really!?

There are two of them, meaning the suggestions jim and myself gave earlier would allow them to get £7,000 in 5% paying current accounts straight away, followed by another £18,000 in 5% paying regular savers over the next 12 months.

And yet you'd recommend filling Santander for just over half that rate...3% AER? Why?

He said his 5% Nationwide account has just ended. Not saying that Santander is his best bet, personally I would move it to Lloyds but there was a reason why Nationwide is no good and they already have TSB accounts ruling 5% paying accounts out. Of course presumably he could still do the flexclusive regular saver but I got the impression he was looking for somewhere to switch to.

Couldn't they open a "hers", as well as a joint, to get 5% on £5K, straight away?

Without knowing his situation that cannot be guaranteed. We keep most of our finances solely in my name as my OH is a higher rate tax payer and he may have the same issue. The OP stated categorically he could not get another Flex account so whether that is because he was unaware he could open it in joint names or his OH or for some other reason like maybe she already has one who knows. I have answered the post on the assumption he has ruled Nationwide out for whatever reason.

They already do 'his' and 'hers', so why not for Nationwide?
