Disney Shares Dividend Cheque Problems

Hello,
My son had two Disney shares bought for him as a Christening present many years ago. We now receives a few dividend cheques a year which are made out in US Dollars. Each cheque is usually around $1-$2 each time. The trouble I have is that all UK banks charge fees for cashing these cheques making it not worthwhile to do so. Disney's investment house will not send the cheques in GBP. They also keep trying to sell the shares back to the state in the US as all of my dividend cheques go uncashed therefore they consider my account inactive. Does anybody have any similar experiences or suggestions on how to get around this problem.
