How long for payment to clear?

in Credit cards
Hi - I won't go into it all, but we've had an absolute nightmare with our Marbles credit card this month. We always clear the card at the beginning of the month, then draw on it again when we need it. To cut a long story short, we paid the full balance of £1100 on Friday 8th January. We had to do it in the Halifax with the giro slip we received with our statement, because we have had issues with their online payment system. We understood this would take 5 working days to clear, as per guidance on their website.
It's now 7 working days since we paid the balance. The payment is showing in our online statement and has been for several days, but it still says our available balance is nil. We're now at the point, a week and a half before pay day, that we need to use the card for shopping, petrol etc. We've phoned them twice - one person told us the card would clear after 7 working days (doesn't seem to be true) and the other person we spoke to on Friday said it would take another 4 working days (making it this Thursday, nearly 2 weeks after we paid?!)
Has anybody had experience if paying a card in this way - is it going to clear in the next few days or are they fobbing me off and something's gone wrong?! With the experience we've had with them this month we don't trust them at all, and if the card isn't clear by this weekend we are literally going to have no money.

What time did you pay on the 8th - possibly not counted so paid in on 11th and the clock starts then so maybe wed/thurs this week. Surely paying by bank transfer using sort code and account with card number as reference, exactly the same as on the giro slip, would be a faster option. Their site state they use the Faster Payments Service - my card (not marbles) shows FP payments received on the day paid.0

Thanks - I'm pretty sure we made it before 12.00pm, although can't be 100% certain as there was a huge queue in the bank.
According to Marbles website:
By telephone/internet banking
Simply quote our Sort Code and most importantly your 16 digit credit card number .... Please allow 7 working days for the payment to reach us.
At any bank
Pay by cash or cheque at any UK high street bank. Ensure you take the bank giro slip with you.... Allow 5 working days for payment to reach your account (excluding public holidays). - this is what we did, in our own bank
So we went with what we thought was the quicker option. If it's 7 working days, they need to amend their website. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and ring tomorrow - if for some reason the payment didn't get processed until the Monday I make that the 7th working day.

why didn't you use a Faster Payment?
i still amazes me to this day people use all other means to pay EXCEPT the fastest method.0 -

I would assume that the website dates back to pre-FPS and hasn't been updated if Marbles do indeed use the FP system0

According to OP's post immediately above yours, in-branch is quicker than Faster Payments! Seems an odd thing for them to state but since they have done then OP can hardly be blamed for believing them....

You can pay online, by cash, cheque, telephone or post – whichever is easiest. You also have the flexibility of being able to pay via a Direct Debit to cover the minimum payment, a set amount, a set percentage of your balance or the full amount due. Whichever suits you best. You can set up a Direct Debit by calling 0333 220 2692* now.
We also accept payment using the Faster Payment Service (FPS).0
