Insurance renewal - courtesy car and legal cover

Its that time of the year and I am about to renew my car insurance. Its the first renewal with my new car. Its also the first time that my daughter has also looking to renew her insurance.

We have done all the checking and run it through the websites and have come to the conclusion that Aviva are favourite (currently with LV but linked we can get it hundreds of £ cheaper)

I have breakdown cover with Start Rescue. Daughter has manufacturers breakdown cover until her renewal date. Start Rescue are in the top 4 options per comparison site.

Question relates to legal cover and courtesy car. 3* cover on Start Rescue includes legal cover and courtesy car. I have never used them but we are wondering, if we have them on the breakdown cover, when pay for the extra option on the car insurance. OK, it might be simpler to deal with everything under 1 umbrella but why pay for something twice. Across the two of us, it could be a £60+ saving if we dont need it.

Anybody able to comment on this option ?

If you already have them elsewhere, you don't need them from your insurer. It's often cheaper to buy a standalone than the insurer's "offer" - remember, they push it TO MAKE MONEY, not out of altruism.

Is the courtesy only offered if your car is being repaired or being paif for from a 3rd party from a non fault accident?

My policy only overs me if my car is being repaired, if its being written off then no coourtesy car for me. But i would just go and buy a new one anyway.

    Check the wording.
