What's wrong with a two bed house?

Hi,
I was just wondering what the consensus was on buying a house with only two bedrooms?
Alot of my friends have said there's no point buying a house with only two bedrooms as resale will be a problem; I should buy a two bed flat instead, which will be cheaper than a house, or buy a three bed (which I dont think I can afford).
What are your thoughts on this?

I'd think that there's plenty of demand for two bedroom houses - there must be plenty of singletons and childless couples who would prefer a house to a flat.0

I'm not sure I agree with their thinking - plenty of people whose budget would stretch to a 2 and not a 3 bed house so the demand will always be there. And a lot of people would prefer a house to a flat as well if they could afford to do so.0

Never heard of problems with 2 bed houses.
Some people talk a lot about resale issues with 1 bed flats. But again that is typically overstated. If they are less in demand relative to supply (which is often not the case in cities) then they should be priced lower. If you pay the right price on entry, you can sell for the right price to get the market moving on exit.0 -
I'd imagine a town centre 2 bed house would be more sought after than one on an estate somewhere, as often plots are tight as you get nearer a town centre so a 3 bed would not make so much sense. A 2 bed on an estate would not make so much sense.0

I'd always prefer a house to a flat, every day of the week! Who would choose a leasehold property if there was freedom?
Of course there's a market. In my town there's desperation as developers love building 'executive' homes and completely ignore the younger/divorced market.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Our house is 2 bedroom and worth the same as 3 bedroom house, as the 2 bedroom houses have 2 large double bedrooms, where as the 3 bedrooms have their master the same size as our smaller bedroom, and 1 bedroom that wouldn't fit a double and furniture, and 1 bedroom that barely fits a single bed. The 2 and 3 bedroom houses have pretty much the same footprint.Zebras rock0

For me, a 2-bed wasn't enough for my impending purchase - even though I'm single. I've spent 20+ years in a nominally 2-bed flat and have got used to actually only having one bedroom and a work/junk room.
When I move it's to the Lake District so I expect to have people visiting and want a proper guest bedroom as well as my own bedroom and my work/junk room.
Had there been anything otherwise suitable with only 2 bedrooms and a garage the latter would have sufficed for the work/junk room, but there wasn't anything that appealed so the 3-bed house is the one for me.0 -
Our first house was a two bed, we stayed there till our children were 7yrs and 2yrs. We sold it last year in 30 mins to a young couple looking for their first house together. So there's lots of resale demand for two bed homes.0

Nothing wrong with a two bedroom house at all - I bought one last year! The bedrooms are both good sizes, It's just me and my partner now but even if we wanted to have a child (or get a lodger) at some point in the distant future we would still have plenty of space.
I can't see why resale would be a problem, there's a lot of demand for two bedroom houses, couples, small families, first time buyers, people downsizing, people up-sizing from a flat etc. Not everyone wants or needs 3+ bedrooms.
Basically your friends are talking sh!te.0 -
