I bought a foam mattress from Argos. It said it was medium firm on the website, but it's really soft,. Do I have any rights to bring it back?

Did you buy it instore?
If so you are totally reliant on their returns policy unless you can demonstrate that the mattress is faulty or was miss sold.

If you bought it online - or by some other distance means - you may have a better chance of a refund. That does depend on when you bought it and when it was delivered.

As you need an orthopaedic mattress, what made you think buying from Argos, where they offer no consultation, was a good idea?

I would have expected that a mattress would be excluded on hygiene grounds, but it seems not. So looks like you have 30 days to do so.
