Buyer wants to collect in person....

Thanks for your input. Looks like the deal will be done tomorrow.
It will be fine i reckon. Only things to be aware of are cash only and has to be the agreed price as per auction end.
I have done this before, but it was a collect only, so we both knew the score before we went into it. This guy wrote me a garbled email assuming it was collect only all along, but then if he pays up etc, who cares."I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0 -
I purposely do this on all my auctions, I only buy within a 10 - 20 mile radius when it comes to electronics and anything over £20 or so...
I have collected dozens of ebay purchases and had many buyers collect. This allows me to ensure that the item is as advertised and allows my buyers to do the same. I usually pay cash on collection and I always insist a buyers pays cash on collection.
I normally agree collection in advance. If I haven’t done this I suggest collection but obviously do not force the issue if the seller is wary.
Tsharp, most ebayers are honest and a £26 item is unlikely to attract a scammer.
Ask for his/her address and contact details and arrange to meet at your work place or nearby convenient spot in public and insist on cash. You are very unlikely to have a problem and you will avoid the costs and risks of postage plus PayPal fees.

i bought a bike box from Ebay but since it's large enough for a bike it would be horrednously expensive to post. After i contacted the seller he actually offered to drop it off on his way past to an event further north.
I was out at work but told him my address (we already had each other's mobile numbers) and told him to leave it round the back garden.
When i cam home from work, lo and behold there was my bike box leaning against the wall - i hadn't even paid him for it - he left it on trust so i could check it out and then decide if i wanted it.
I sent him a text to say many thanks and that i'd left positive feedback and of course paid for the item.
for larger items ie anything over several hundred pounds i email to ask if i can pick up in person. 99% say it's fine and i've also asked if they'll allow me to use their pc so i can pay them using paypal - again 99% say it's no problem.
now and again i find someone selling a £4000 camera doesn't want to meet or allow me to uplift - more often than not, they've got 0 feedback.
I steer WELL CLEAR of those ones.
couple of pals and public place and you'll be fine but as someone pointed out, for only £26 you're unlikely to be attracting any scammers!

Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -
It's an exceptionally naive seller who lets a collecting buyer pay them with paypal.
I'm sure you're trustworthy, Darich, but there are plenty of people who aren't.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Had a load of emails today about arranging the sale, but hopefully we'll sort it tonight and meet up on the way home. This guys a feedback is 1, but we have to start somewhere so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
As it happens i am giving a mate a lift home so there will be two of us etc."I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0 -
1 feedback at least he has contacted you , i have 3 non paying bidders in the last 2 weeks !!!0

Well, we are meeting at PC World at 6pm tonight, so i'll let you know how it goes...."I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0
-
well the meeting has probably already taken place... but today i am having 3 of my 5 items collected. One went at 5pm the others will go at 7pm. I have no problems with collection, we live in a quiet area but with nosey neighbours :rotfl: today i am doing them alone but i dont worry most are nice enough and i had previously spoken to them on the phone prior to collection. Saves all the postage etc etc0
-
Well that was easy enough. Arranged it for 6pm, got there early, he was already there, made the sale and left, done in dusted in less than a minute and i was home at normal time. Apparently he has 1 feedback cos no one leaves him feedback after sales etc, so he asked me to leave some, which i will cos it was hassle free.
Maybe next time he should ask if he can collect tho..."I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0 -
glad to hear that the sale went fine. I for one certainly wouldnt like an ebayer to come to my house for collecting an item - only if there was a few people going to be here and there was no alternative way of sending the item
with the feedback I would wait until he has left it for you then if there is any comeback, ie, if he says he hasnt got it or pulls some sort of dirty trick you havent already left him positive feedback!Weight Loss - 102lb0
