Claim with Barclays - no reply
The charges should be related to a credit card from ~10 years ago, but as you'd expect the statements were destroyed a while ago.
Thanks.

You can ring them and chase but I wouldn't hold my breath as the banks won the unfair charges case back in 2009 and charges from an account 10 years ago are not going to be refunded
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Did you send the £10 and the request to the card provider or the bank?
As you mention Barclays credit card then that would be Barclaycard rather than Barclays. Barclaycard tend to hold a rolling 6 years of statements on their records. It is unlikely that statements from 10 years still exist.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I sent my list of charges (highlighted) and letter to Barclays in October 2015 and I haven't even received a letter acknowledging receipt of the letter! Not holding my breath!0

Are you in CURRENT financial hardship or talking about general historic charges? If you are not currently in hardship (charges causing more charges, struggling to pay bills, no luxuries in your spending) then you will get a polite refusal from the bank or a small gesture of goodwill. Banks are NOT paying out charges through a reclaim since they won the 2009 court caseSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Did you include the £10? Have they taken the £10 from your account?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Unless you are in financial hardship (and can demonstrate this to the Bank), there is no obligation for them to refund any charges at all. Even if you are successful, the most you will receive is a refund of charges from the last six months. It was futile of you sending a list of highlighted charges, the Bank already know what you have paid.I sent my list of charges (highlighted) and letter to Barclays in October 2015 and I haven't even received a letter acknowledging receipt of the letter!
That is not an excuse for the Bank not to respond to your letter, though.
If you are in verifiable hardship, you should write another letter detailing your plight and making your case to them. Don't make any mention of "unfair" charges and, ideally, don't send a template letter.
I don't think Frenchboy will have written requiring a SAR if he sent them a list of the charges!Did you include the £10? Have they taken the £10 from your account?
No £10 required.0 -
