Artificial Grass Problems?

Options
We had our garden landscaped in November 2015 and we had artificial grass replaced our lawn.

Since the installation, apart from a few days in a row, it has been raining pretty much every day.
It rained immediately after the install and was very windy and as a consequence the kilndried sand was blown around the grass and has clumped up since then.

The main issues is the artificial grass is at an angle since install (was delivered and probably stored as rolled carpet rolls).
We was advised of brushing it back to get its original upright position but this has not changed....

The 2nd issue is this sand which has clumped together. This has caused multiple areas with uneven surfaces and bumps...

Please see attached pics.
Anyone had similar issues?

I'd rip it up and replace it with grass.

Or if you really want maintenance free, then pea gravel would look much better than plastic grass.

could you get plastic dandelions also to make it look more realistic?

what about fake poo or is that going to far?

  • A friend replaced his lawn with artificial grass, and to be honest, it looked a mess after six months. Additionally, three new bungalows have been built at the end of our road and their small back gardens were landscaped using artificial grass. They have 'all' pulled the grass up and landcaped with paving because of similar problems.
Maybe it would be worth contacting the manufacturer for advice, or maybe a word of complaint.

Not necessary. Cats seem to love it and so there is more than enough of the real stuff.

To the OP - I had mine laid in the summer so didn't have these problems. Whoever laid it should have thought about the effect heavy rain would have on the sand so you need to go back to them.

  • I have a small area of artifial grass at the front which has been down since Aug 2014 - its still just as good as it was when it was put down. I put crushed granite underneath mine - maybe that prevents the clumping? Also mine is screwed down along the permitter.
  • Mine's been down for over a year and no cats have ever dumped on it,unlike the tiny front garden(unturfed) which they turned into a toilet until I tried those green chrystal things. My artificial grass does get the occasional weed in it,they are easily plucked out at a young stage, can't think of any other problems with it.......

Gravel is definitely not maintenance free.

Ours has been down over 9 years and looks as good as it did when put down.
I would get the company back to sort it out, seems like bad workmanship to me.
