Really?!?!?! I think I'd rather save the £20 and spend the 30 seconds putting the scraps in the bin myself - but each to their own!

Carpet fitters that take the scraps away are the exception rather than the norm, in fact it's pretty much industry standard to leave the rubbish for the client.
IMHO I would happily pay £20 to get the carpet taken away, my time is worth more than that.

But Chappers, the fee isn't for uplifting and removing the old carpet it's only for removing any scraps that are left over. They charge extra for carting off your old carpet.,

By the way, I popped into the shop for my refund today and the manager confirmed that the fitters do not receive any of this TLC service money - it goes to the carpet company. Amazing.

Incredible! They get away with this because so few people even question it. What's an extra £20 when you're spending so much. It's wrong.

I'd like to see a response from one of the Directors of the company justifying this charge.

Here's the list of Directors: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/09247255/officers

Does anyone know any of them and could let them know of this thread?

Taking out the guff, I am sure that you would want your customers to love their new flooring and to hope their fitting goes smoothly from the outset.

You seem to have forgotten to seek permission before posting, hopefully the MSE team won't charge you for that. ;)
  • I currently work for a carpet retailers and I think this is completely wrong. We never charge for any delivery of carpets or the tidying of the fitting area afterwards that is all part of the service. Basically Tapi is charging their customers for basic customer service in this industry.

    The Tapi TLC Package covers:-
    1. The cost of preparing, packaging and delivering your new flooring. Including the delivery from the manufacturer to the store and then the store to your home.

Seriously, this implies that without the TLC package, you would expect the customer to collect from the manufacturer directly. In which case, why is the customer not buying direct?

This is like Tesco charging you to rent the trolley whilst you do your shop. Obviously charging everything as extras to keep the showroom ticket price down.

Had a new carpet fitted earlier this week. No extra charges for delivery, removal of waste, or hoovering.

The old carpet had already been uplifted before the fitter came. He removed all the small scraps, but left me with a couple of larger offcuts. Had to do the hoovering myself, but that was a minor chore in comparison to all the other work that has been going on.
