Officially, as of yesterday, I am now debt free! :money:
If you're on your journey or just starting out, just go for it and don't stop. When I first joined MSE and started my debt free journey, I felt like this day was never going to come round. The weeks, months and years pass quicker than you think and making short-term sacrifices for long-term gains is what it's all about.
This journey has taught me so much about how to manage my finances. I budget for everything and I save what I can whilst still allowing myself to live.
Make a start. Do something. Seek help. Make a plan.
Your day will come!

Congratulations.
Have to agree with Sourcrates though I found it easy to start slipping into old bad habits. Best thing I did was to have a "treats" budget (and sticking to it) so that it made me stop and think before I spent money on non essentials.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -

Well done. Just shows if you stick with it you will get the debt paid off. As you rightly say, this board teaches you how to make the best of your money- budgeting, saving etc.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0
