Too late for CPP?

I paid for CPP insurance as part of my current account package with Santander. Santander looked at my mis-selling claim but replied they did not have to compensate me because it was part of a package and I had good value for other parts of the package eg travel insurance. I am now passed the time limit they set for further action. Is it worth me trying again?

  • Having seen Martin Lewis on TV last night I would have thought you should try again and then go to Find Ombudsman if no success.
I'm trying. I was horrified to see I've had mine since 1999. No idea who sold it to me though!

The CPP reclaim scheme was closed at least a year ago, as you're out of time I wouldn't hold my breath on getting a refund.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • You can still complain to CPP who will doubtless reject on the basis that the Refund Scheme was wound up in August 2014.

However, such a rejection will then give you access to the Ombudsman who has the power to award the redress regardless, depending on the reasons you give for delaying..

Don't be counting any chickens though...

If the CPP policy was sold by a bank before January 2005 you can complain to them
