Natwest Select is also one of the easier ones to apply online.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advice :-)

Much more than I expected, and gives me lots of options.
I hadn't even thought about getting another basic account with my current provider, Santander.
Although it seems I might not be able to do it online :-(
I do like the ideas that it might limit additional credit searches though, be approved quicker and show online quicker.

I was also attracted to the idea about a Halifax account since it seems they are opened quickly etc.
AND....I already have a Halifax Clarity Credit Card so they may be able to approve me quickly.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice, I will certainly be working on this over the next couple of days :-)

Why not? I opened all my current accounts with Santander online, and I have more than just 2 with them.

The RBS Select account offers nothing to English customers.

No switch bonus, no interest, no rewards.
Not strictly true. English customers can get the RBS Reward account if they hold their account with Child & Co, Drummonds or Holts. :D
