i wasnt saying avg had to be up to date. If vista isnt up to date before you install avg then you can have problems in that avg will not work correctly. Its probably just one update that you need but I dont know which one, so on a new machine just purchased its advisable to get all vista updates befor installing avg. hope that clears up my original post.0

What utter tosh.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM is that the remnants of Norton are still screwing up parts of the system - most notably Windows Security Centre notifications and you'll also find Windows Update won't work as well.
As already posted, use the Norton Removal Tool. DOWNLOAD IT FROM NORTONS/SYMANTECS WEBSITE as it is updated often.0 -
well i followed all instructions. twice downloaded removal tools, more than twice checking all files and updates, twice removing avg and and reinstalling. now im still at square one but thanks to all who tried to help ive now emailed tech. support maybe they can help if not i'll have to get a man in to fix it. thanks to everyone again for there support.

Before being so rude when replying to my efforts to help please read this >> http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?2,100417,backpage=,sv= As you should see this is from the official avg forum and explains better what I was saying. I know it is correct saying because it happened to me and taking the advice sorted out my problem. It may not be the answer to the original posters problem but it was my effort to help.0

I have had the same issues getting zone alarm, it just stops loading at 57% and the PC freezes I have now opted for PC TOOLS firewall which is doing a fine job.
But as soon as comodo releases its vista version it will be on.
On OP note I found AVG fine once I removed the permissions setting on Vista as that was causing background issues.0
