You know who set up MEGA
Yes - an individual who goes by the "name" of Kim Dotcom
And remember his last venture: that was called "Megaupload"
And do you remember what happened to that?
I don't keep any other documents on MEGA, so nothing that could conceivably be used for identity theft or similar.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Forget all that, tell us about the bikes.

I'm back!
Sorry, I was swapping over from Talk Talk to Plusnet and it was only today that I was able to get on the internet...
Anyway, thanks for all your input so far. Very useful.
It's not the first recommendation I've had about TIFF vs. JPG. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Gingernutty did you have any success in getting/buying a photo scanner yet?
I have been to my dad's loft over the weekend as had to replace a leaking ball valve while I was there I had to move things and came across 600/700 slides from when he was in the Navy in the early 50's and also a projector and the thing you project the slides onto. The projector works but overheats quickly.
While we were there I also noticed that he has loads of negatives and I said he could get them put onto a dvd or usb so he can get a better look on the tv.
I have looked at some of the scanners but I also need one that takes 110 negatives whick seem rare.
It would be good to get feedback from you if you bought a scanner.0 -
My Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner does negatives well, came with holders for a variety of negative sizes including, IIRC, 110. However, it's a slow process as you can only do 4 at a time. Same applies doing slides.
I tried a cheapo slide scanner (borrowed) but the results were poor.0 -
Depending on how much you will use the scanner in future (ie using it regularly versus selling it on versus dead money with it sitting in the loft), and how much you value your time (this could be quite a biggie unless you enjoy the process of looking at each photo), you might be better off going down the "let someone else do it" route.

I used to have an Epson Perfection and it was excellent.
I would save as TIFF if you can straight out of the scanner and before you do any retouching. The reason is TIFF is a lossless format and good for archiving. With JPG every time you press save you degrade the image. You can always send JPG copies to people.
Back up in more than one place. Ideally two physical places and one in The Cloud.0
