What happens past 6 years with debts?

My wife has old debts dating back to 2008 where she had a DMP in place with creditors paying minimal amounts. Wind forward to 2016 and there is nothing on her credit file showing any debts associated to her name. She also had a CCJ with is no longer in existence...
None of the creditors have been in contact or chased her for any money, she owes roughly £40k.

Do we continue paying the minimal amounts?

or Do we stop paying the amounts?

Can the creditors pursue the money and put it back on her credit file thus going back to the beginning?.

The creditors won't forget. Something that will cause her a problem if application is made for further credit from them now.
  • She's obtained credit from a credit card company with no problem.

If all the bad things are off the credit report now then when that person applies for future credit there bad debt even if it still exists will not give them issues obtaining new credit, unless you are applying with the people you still owe money too then in this case it may do, some people have got accounts again with company's they have previously owed too and some can't, if your paying the debts off now then it might be best to continue cause the debt still exist even though it's not on the credit reports now.

As she has made payments they can still take her to court for the money, If she stopped contact and did nto pay a penny or admit liability to them for over 6 years then she would be clear.

As she has made payments they have 6 years to take her to court even though it currently doesnt show on her credit file.

A CCJ will show up on there.. As she has taken out new credit if they do a check it may show up. I had issues some years back and made them F&F offers to settle, several of them checked my credit report.

I would imagine that any new credit would tell them that i maybe able to pay more or worth hanging onto the debt.
