Bank charge back doubble payment

Hi all,

My bank has paid me twice the amount it should of 9 weeks ago and has not asked for this back.

1 should I tell them and 2 as it has been over 45 days (the amount of time the other bank has to decline the charge back) does this mean it is now my money.

Hope you and give me some advice.

Thank

Where do you get the 45 days from?

    Who is the money from?
  • The bank told me after the other bank I had made a payment to had 45days (visa charge back rules apparently ) to appeal the charge back.

Hsbc bank has given me the money in both accounts (hsbc and Nat west) so I have had the payment twice.

Would you like to be thought of as a, honest person with a straight moral compass.
  • Sorry I forgot to mention both banks could not find this money for 2 weeks prior to paying it back.

How are two banks involved? Surely the chargeback was for a payment made from one account at one bank, so how has the other bank become involved at all?

The OP is just looking for us to endorse his keeping the money.

The bank has six years to realize their mistake and ask you to return the erroneous payment. The likelihood the bank will miss the error in the next audit is very, very slim indeed.

But you can always keep up hope the mistake will never be found. After all, it's only another 303 weeks to go before the statutory limitations will kick in.
