Google Drive problem

I was looking for a specific specific document in my synced Google Drive folder on my PC but could not find it. I searched via the Drive website and found it - but only by way of searching the file name. When I looked through My Drive and all its folders I could not find it. Neither did it appear in "shared with me", "Google photos", "Recent", "Starred" or "Bin".
The ONLY way to find it was via search. I then noticed that when selecting the file in the list of search results the "Move To..." button changed to "Add to My Drive" I clicked this and the file synced to my PC. Problem solved for this particular file...
However, I need to discover just how many other files are not in "My Drive". The only way that seems to work would be to search for "*.*" and scroll through thousands of results, This is a very daunting prospect - is there an easier method? And how can I prevent files mysteriously dropping out of "My Drive" in the future?

May be a sync problem on a file, right click on the google drive app and see 'unsyncable files'?0

Do you mean the Drive icon in the system tray at the right of the taskbar? There is no option to view unsyncable files when right-clicking this.0

Solved! Very helpful callback from Google agent following request on Drive support webpage. To list all "orphaned" files type
