Hi all
I know Pontins has a terrible reputation - but i am wondering if they have got any better over the past few years? Have the apartments been refurbished?
I am getting desperate for somewhere to take the kids for february half term.
I would be looking at Pontins Southport .... has anyone been recently?
thanks

Hello we stayed at Southport in October. We were attending an event in Liverpool with our two young children and it was cheaper to go to Pontins for the night including dinner and breakfast than it was to stay on a hotel so we booked it. The tripadvisor reviews were awful and when we got there it looked like a dive; all the signs are faded and weathered, the whole place needs a good lick of paint.
The activities are quite good though, there was a really big soft play with a TV room, a good sized arcade, a games room whichever was payable per hour and a couple of entertainment rooms ( bingo, tribute acts etc). There was a skate park and a big outdoor inflatable area and go karts, all chargeable extras but only a couple of pounds. We went swimming but the pool is basic; one big pool with a couple of nets and a toddler pool with a slide, no water flumes or anything.
The food was okay, not the best but not bad and it was buffett so good value, although the dining hall is quite busy.
The apartment wasn't great though,; really basic decor and there was no bedding, not even sheets. We just stayed on the mattress with an unquilted duvet and although we put the heaters on in all rooms it was really really cold. I was shivering under the duvet. also bear in mind that you have to buy an electric card for your room too.
It did us for one night and the activities were good for the children, but it's pretty rundown and grubby. I wouldn't think more than two days there really, not a full half term. hope that helps you x0
