Why would i query the 1st statement when all it says is TR Name & amount, believed it to be just interest....
  • I note that you say the mortgage was taken out in the early 1980s. This presents a number of problems for you.

Firstly, PPI (or ASU - Accident Sickness and Unemployment insurance) was not common at that time. So in the absence of any evidence that it WAS a PPI payment, it is more likely than not that it was not.

I suspect that somebody at the lender who was in short trousers or nappies at the time looked at the case and did not realise this but then somebody longer in the tooth read the file and overturned it.

If the person who overturned it is on the ball, they will also realise that no mortgage lender was a member of an ombudsman scheme in the early 1980s because the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau was the first in 1983, with the Banking Ombudsman scheme starting in 1986 and the Building Societies Ombudsman in 1987.

That would mean they could object to FOS looking at the matter at all.

My view, though, is that it is very unlikely to have been PPI and somebody at the lender simply made a mistake.

That would also explain why you were so certain you did not take out PPI.
