Camera Display just flashes.

I've got an Olympus Stylus 1050SW. It's six years old and used to work OK, but now when I turn it on the display just flashes every second or so. I've tried cleaning the contacts but to no avail. Should I get a new battery do you think? Or just throw it away?

Always test the battery first .0

Does it do anything different when the charger is plugged in?
Is there anything other than the display to indicate whether or not the battery is charging?
Could you borrow a multimeter?
A quick look on Amazon shows you can get a battery for £2.99 delivered. I'd risk £3 to avoid buying a new camera unless I wanted one anyway.0 -

I have a battery tester which shows a full charge. I'll try a new battery, thanks, didn't realise they'd be so cheap.0
