Can Mary have 3 cakes, eat them and expect a fourth?

She may be on a comfortable salary, and the owner of three properties, but the lack of ready cash is a concern for Marie.Marie put £70,000 towards a £190,000 flat in Camberley. She sold this in October 2015 for £250,000 and bought another three-bedroom house for £280,000 in December.
I hope she realises she'll have a hefty CGT bill to pay shortly?0 -
So what's her overall net worth with respect to value of all property less mortgages?0

There is a growing amount of evidence to show that people, both men and women, tend to react negatively to women with independent wealth.
There is a growing amount of evidence to suggest that I react negatively to a system that incentivises accruing £530k of mortgage debt on a salary of £39k pa, while other people struggle to just afford their own property. You could replace the person in the article with a flying spaghetti monster and I'd feel the same.0 -

And that's to your credit that you feel able to be bigoted towards people that are successful regardless of their sex.0 -

Not really. A query has been made about whether you and others have a gender bias. The only person talking about sexism is you. You don't have to Sid the Sexist to have a gender bias.
I find it rather odd that everyone is affected by multiple biases but it's impossible to find anyone that can admit to it.
No such qualms on another forum where someone thinks the woman in question agreed to the article to try and attract a boyfriend and another advises she have another baby to increase tax credits.0 -

Did you miss the part where I said system? Surely not everyone on this forum engages in the age old internet warfare art of playing the man rather than the ball?0 -
Personally, my issue is with the quality of the journalism really.
It would be difficult to repeat the lady's success on her level of salary alone, and I think the article should reflect this somewhere. She enjoys a lifestyle which involves spending big on holidays, and the fact she inherited money which provided the deposit was pivotal. She doesn't claim to be a saver.
I worry if hubristic articles make it seem that BTL is some kind of risk free option. It isn't. One bad tennant could hit someone in her position hard, and it wouldn't be a daft idea to have a cash buffer.0 -

...
I do have a gender bias.
I think women make better housing selections than men. You only have to see the number of women on these property programs to realise that people like Sarah Beeny are successful for a reason.0 -

Oh no it's not. Most people are aware that they're biased in some way. Stop setting up straw men arguments.
In this particular case, I think you'll find my rants against the BTL system are pretty prevalent on this board, and not once has sexism been mentioned until one of the threads happened to be about a woman.
If one of my friends accused me of this, I'd tell him straight to his face that he was on dubious cheap shot territory and talking complete bullsh!t. We'd still be friends after.
So I hope Generali is big enough to accept me calling his statement BS and being civil afterward, because I actually think he is a respectful and nice poster here.0 -

I am almost always civil, apart from when I'm not.
If I misinterpreted your point then I apologise. It is almost midnight here and drink has been taken.0
