Sorry if this topic has been on, I can't find anything on it.
We live in Scotland, our energy company is Scottish Power
They have said about putting in smart meters
I have googled it and if I have read it properly!! It seems to be better to wait till at least after April. And we can refuse it now?
Has anyone had dealings with S P & Smart meters
Thanks

You can refuse to have a smart meter PERIOD - unless you live in a property with communal/district heating. The Regulations around these types of properties were quietly changed last year by Govt. The whole smart meter roll out programme is slipping to the right because of issues setting up the organisation that will allow users to switch suppliers and maintain smart meter connectivity.. Personally, I would wait as long as possible before getting a smart meter fitted.
That said, if your meter is just old and it needs replacing you cannot refuse a replacement - it just doesn't need to be smart. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Loads of stuff about smart meters on here. Yes you can refuse it, but why on earth would you ? The suppliers prefer them, you can sit back never having to read the things again and you get a superior energy monitor with an in-house display to plug into any socket to amuse yourself at how high the cost of your electric shower is, etc.
Hengus is correct, you cannot refuse an exchange of meter..period !, so you have to faff around waiting for the fitter to call anyway. Possibly those who will not allow a smart meter to be installed may face extra metering costs once the roll out is completed.0 -

Never one to turn down a challenge, it would seem that the industry is not that keen on them as SMETS2 technology has already been declared obsolete. Forgive me for sitting on the fence until this one plays out.
OP - I suggest that you read the bottom sections of this article:

Quote There is a good reason for the recurrent delays. It’s because nobody outside DECC actually wants these particular smart meters. UnquoteThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Spot on Hengus - another dead duck!0 -
Thank you for your replies
It's not so much not wanting it, it's just that most of the things that have been said about them is that especially getting them before April is not a good idea0 -
OP. I wouldn't hold your breath. The rollout moves about 3 months to the right every three months. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You need a meter, does it make any difference what type or even what colour it is. What's April got to do with it?Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

My main argument against smart members has been voiced on many other threads.
I am still of the opinion that until a universally compatible meter becomes the norm I will hold fire. What is the point of getting a smart meter, then having it revert to a dumb meter on changing supplier.
Incidentally I read that the industry is making progress to adopt a universal meter and this might be available in October, if this happens then I will sign up then.0 -
From the latest DECC report on smart meters ((DEc 15):
An Early Rollout Obligation – a requirement on all large suppliers to take all reasonable steps to install, commission and enrol with the DCC 1,500 meters that meet the Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications 2 (SMETS2) standard, or 0.025% of a supplier’s total meter points, whichever is the lower, by 1 February 2017;
Hardly an ambitious roll out programme of SMETS2 meters. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
