Tesco say no PPI

We have had so many cards over the years it's hard to remember which one's had PPI attached so we are writing to all of them. So far we have had several replies saying they are investigating our claim except Tesco which states simply that they have reviewed our file and can confirm that no PPI was added at any time to our credit card account.
I'm inclined to accept this response but after reading numerous threads on here re: Tesco reclaims it does seem they can be difficult to deal with.
Are they that difficult that they would write this anyway so therefore should I request a copy of my file or is it more likely they are correct? Has anyone else taken this kind of response further? I don't want to part with £10 just to have my file confirm what I've already been told.
Thank you.

  • You either accept what they say or pay £10 for a Subject Access Request (SAR) to very likely have it confirmed. There really is no alternative option for you.

Every credit card statement you have would list PPI on it every month if you paid it (by not clearing the balance every month) so check your statements - I would imagine they would also have a simple check box on an online system to show if you had it or not so would be a waste of £10 unless you believe Tesco are lying

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I should have said it's an old account and we don't have any statements anymore.

So, you either accept their response or you pay £10 to do a data subject access request if you dont believe them.

  • So you have no evidence of PPI. You have been told by them that they have no evidence of PPI either.

Either you believe them or you don't.

If you do, then ther is no point in going forward.

If you do not believe them, is this because you think, like you, they simply cannot find the evidence. If so, then will searching again reveal it?

If you think it is because they have evidence but lied when you asked, why do you think they will suddenly start telling the truth.

I think it unlikely that they have deliberately sought to deceive you but merely explain the ramifications for the benefit of the conspiracy theorists out there.
