Thomson increased my holiday price by £2000

Hi
I'm hoping someone can help as I'm in a bit of a panic about this. I booked our holiday last august (2015) to go on holiday next august 2016. I got a free child place at the time of booking which is why I booked it otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford it - and that is why I booked so far ahead to get the best deals. Anyway I got a confirmation email at the time - the total cost of our holiday was £5,323.16. I got an amendment email from them today (I haven't made any amendments to the details and don't need to) and the price on this was £7,105.12. A complete shock and I am completely panicking about it as we can't afford an extra £2000!!!! The holiday wasn't cheap to begin with but we can't afford the extra £2000! Really worried. They are investigating. Does anyone have any advice? I just want the holiday we booked back (( The best deals have gone now so we won't be able to book anything similar.
Thanks in advance

    Let them investigate.

Probably just an administrative error and a new invoice was generated by the system when it was not meant to have been.

    The original price should stand.

Did you pay a deposit then? You're sure it isn't 5K in addition to deposit?

Most likely an admin error thankfully, your initial agreement stands.
  • We paid a deposit the original 'total price of the holiday was' £5,323.16 but this new email said it was '£7,105.12'. We would never have booked at this second price as it is just too much. Does anyone know if they are under obligation to honour the original price? Surely they can't just increase the prices of holidays by such a huge figure after someone has booked in good faith? Otherwise what's to stop the doubling the cost of your holiday a month before you go and then saying too you that you can always cancel?

Call them....sounds like an error...as you say you made no amendments so you have no reason to receive an amendment invoice
  • It will be a computer glitch. They won't have increased the cost of your booking. Just let them look into it. No one on here has access to your booking, or their systems to be able to advise.
  • I meant legal advice i.e. where I stand legally - are they allowed to just increase the price of a booking once it's made so drastically? thx

I think you're jumping the gun if you're thinking in terms of legal, but if you want legal advice now then speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau. Just let Thomson look into it, and wait for them to come back to you. Their new system from last year still has bugs. I certainly wouldn't panic about it.

Most companies do reserve the right to increase up to about 10%, but not just because the feel like it. There has to be a legitimate reason. Any more than that you are entitled to cancel. It will have told you in the terms and conditions you read before you booked, so have another read of them and they will give you more info.

What to the T&C's say? They aren't the be all and end all (unfair contract terms act, consumer protection from unfair trading, unfair terms in consumer contracts regulations) but its a good starting point.

Generally though, if a contract is binding on you, it is binding on them.

But unless your departure date is imminent, its not cause for concern at this stage.

    I am completely panicking

You are. Please try to stay calm. You have reported this to Thomson and they have said they are investigating.

You don't need it. You are jumping the gun. Wait for Thomson's to respond. I'm sure it is a simple administration glitch.

They won't ask you for another £2k.

I booked a holiday in June for May 2016. It's cost about £15,000

I've had letters with wildly different prices on them. Some more, some less.

I've got my original contract signed Instore and I've kept all correspondence from them. When I go in to pay, (in two weeks time) I know exactly how much I need to pay down to the last penny
