Halifax Switching Bonus

Hi,

Looking through the halifax terms and conditions it says:
Use the ‘Current Account Switch Service’ to transfer all the active credits and debits from the bank account that you hold with another bank and close this account.

Do I actually have to switch any Direct Debits, or can i just switch any account?

Has anyone who has done this let me know if they switched DD's or not

Thanks
James

If I remember correctly, if you just want the £100 for switching then I don't think you need any direct debits but if you also want the £5 per month then there has to be two active direct debits on your account.

The direct debits don't have to be on the account you are switching from they can be added later after you have opened your Halifax account.
  • Ahh many thanks, I only have a limited number of accounts, so I'm going to switch to Halifax, open 4DD's and switch to Yorkshire, I'll worry about the 5 p/m at a later date

    Why 4 DDs?
  • Ahh, I was under the impression that yorkshire wanted 4 for some reason, but they only want 2 after reading again. Think I'm getting confused with a different one!

Co-op. Now you've realised this is easy money you're like a kid in a sweet shop! ;)
  • Your so right! trying to keep up with the new offers and collect as many as possible is making have the biggest spreadsheet ever. I supposed once I've done most of them it'll only be one new one per month

Unfortunately not. Once you have done them all, that's just it - you have done them all. There's only a limited number of current account providers in the UK. Just about all of them now have a clause that excludes you if you have ever had a switching bonus.

A newcomer may make around £600-800, but then they've more or less done (other than an annual £100 from Nationwide).
  • I thought it would be more than that, quiet a lot of the accounts/credit card which offer a joining bonus seem to be 6 months, quite a few don't have a clause of never having an account with them I've seen. Whats the £100 from nationwide?
