leaving Sainsburys gas / electric supply
Options
Our gas and electric supply contract with Sainsburys ends on 29.02.16, its been a good deal but there are slightly better ones out there so I have been told, looking at my present supplier I see I have a £29 per gas / electric charge for leaving before end date of contract, I had read somewhere that it is waved should you leave in the last month of the contract, but there is no mention of it on there website, it takes them 5 days to respond to the question by email, and the wait is to long phoning them. Anyone give me some idea when its safe to start switching without incurring this £58 in total penalty.

You should be informed by your current supplier 42 days before the end .Free to transfer after 42 days .0

Ofgem have stopped British Gas offering cheaper tariffs to their "white label " brand like Sainsburys Energy since 2nd Jan this year. They will now have to come in line with BG tariffs....which are nt very good at the moment.0

Mine also finishes on 29th Feb with Sainsbury's. No email yet advising me that I can change fee free other than the one from MSE Energy club which says I can.
I will not move until I have confirmation from Sainsbury's as I don't want to risk the penalty.
FWIW I am currently intending to move my gas to ZOG and Electric to GB Energy unless things change in the meantime.:)0 -
I emailed customer services last night and got this back this morning (bit quicker than the 5 days mentioned above)
Thanks for getting in touch.
We don't charge cancellation fees for the final 42 days of a contract, so as long as you leave after January 18th you wouldn't receive a penalty. When you choose a new supplier there's a 2 week cool off period to begin with, so in effect if you chose to switch suppliers today you wouldn't be charged.
We do of course hope you'll stick with us though and you can view our current range of tariffs by clicking here. If there's anything further I can do to help, please let me know.
Thanks again.

Also looking to change before Sainsburys fix expires at end of Feb.
Just submitted meter reading to update account which is now in debit.
CEC also shows separate suppliers is cheapest, Zog for gas and GB Energy for electricity.
I wonder when suppliers may reduce prices, probably in the summer.0 -
Very useful thread. My contract too also ends on 29th feb and I am looking to switch suppliers as there are better deals out there plus the cashback for switching.
I wonder if some kind poster could tell me with the following figures what percentage of electric I am using in the day/night as my maths isn't that hot!
598 units night
886 units day
thank you in advance0 -

59.7% Day
40.3% Night
Total 1484 so 598 or 896/1484x100= percentage:D
No cashback for switching to zog or GB0 -
My tarrifs ending 29th feb too. I wasnt aware of the fact that ofgem had stopped british gas selling their sainsburys energy tarrifs lower than their own. The last decent tarrif i saw of sainsburys energy was fixed dec 16 which has now disappeared. Think i will be getting the £40 cashback via quidco for a dual switch
Can anyone recommend a decent tariif or company. I see a few of them offering decent rates but want u to pay upfront from day 1. Id sooner pay alittle bit extra and pay in arrears!0 -
Just log onto the Cheap Energy Club and put in your real usage figures and your existing tariff. This will then produce a list of suppliers for you and then you can research which supplier you wish to use.
Every provider has a feedback page on this forum so you can see what customers think of them.

What is cheap for me might not be for you. You need to use the comparison sites to see what is out there for you.0 -
Make sure you compare with USWITCH as well and see if the deals are better"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
