My story is:I have been off long term sick leave since March of this year and been trying to cope with living off SSP from the work since May of this year. Which works out to be approx. £72 a week. I am waiting to hear if I qualify for Disibility money, and have been for over two months! I have went through treatment for aggresive breast cancer last year and it has left its mark! My mobility can be bad and my bones in my legs hurt all the time. The doctor from the DWP confirmed that I have sustained damage from the Chemo to my legs and my breathing from the Radiation I received. Could someone tell me if I have a chance of qualifying for income support as I live alone and have no other salary coming into the home as I live alone. I have never applied for benefits before in my life until I took ill, so I have no idea what I could quality for?.Thank You.
unfortunately the amount of SSP you are getting exceeds the IS weekly entitlement for a single person so your claim would be a nil from the outset. Your DLA shouldn't take much longer to sort out though, 2 months is usually the norm and I think you'd more than likey get it backdated to when you originally applied. However, if you do get your DLA sorted out soonish & you have the care or mobility component being paid at the medium rate or above AND no one is claiming carers allowance for you then you may qualify for the income support Severe Disability Premium (SDP). This won't give you much more money coming in but it will keep your Income Support claim open so you can claim other benefits like Housing/Council tax ben etc. But you'll need to wait until your DLA entitlements have been sorted out.0 -

The Severe Disability Premium (SDP) is only paid to those with Middle or Higher rate care DLA . It is not paid with any rate of the Mobility component. Also there is no Middle rate for mobility only Lower and Higher.0 -

Thanks, I found this out yesterday when I phoned someone at Jobseeker Plus. I was told that as soon as my SSP money stops (next month) that I will be eligible for Income Support. What I was surprised to find out was that I should have received income support last year when I was going through my breast cancer treatment. I am so angry because I specifically asked for help to find out what I qualified for. I should also have not had to pay for perscriptions for any medication that I needed at that time. I have contacted my MP to investigate this. I have been put through further stress that no one going through cancer should!I just wonder if I will receive this money backdated?0
