Parking @sheffield Pure Gym

Hi there,
My son got himself a parking ticket from MET Parking Services in October at Pure Gym in Sheffield, where he is a member-apparently he had gone over his allotted time. The car was registered to myself at the time. I have had, probably 6 letters from them since then, and after reading various posts I have done nothing so far. I have now received a letter that appears to be from Sheffield Council that calls itself a Charge Certificate? Does anyone have any advice as to what I can/should do next please? My fingers are crossed.
Amanda

  • Are you sure this is for the same thing? Was it definitely a private car park, or was it council, with MET acting for the council? We need to see the paperwork to be sure. Read it all carefully (I hope you still have it). If it really is a council ticket, and you have a charge certificate, there's little option but to pay. But we need to be sure about what it is you have first.
  • Whoops! Sorry-I've had a closer inspection and the PCN numbers are different-Grrrr, teenagers! I think I went into panic mode, I couldn't see how the two could be related, and they aren't :/
Anyway...the one I have an issue with is the MET notice...I( am now on the Final Reminder...? The amount being requested is £100.00. We no longer own this vehicle.
    Thanks
  • It appears, then, that there are two parking tickets on the go here:
    1. One from MET, which is a private parking company (PPC) ticket. For this, read the NEWBIES sticky thread on this forum. You are past any appeal deadlines, so ignoring everything (apart from court papers, MET aren't known for doing court) from now on. As the driver was not the keeper, they would have to rely on the Protection of Freedoms Act to make you, the keeper, liable, and chances are they haven't got all the paperwork right in order to go down that route. You could name your son as the driver, whereupon he'll get his own Notice, and can then appeal. As these guys are BPA, there's a good chance you could win at POPLA.
    2. The other sounds like a council ticket which has also been ignored if you have got as far as the Charge Certificate stage. This means the ticket wasn't appealed, and you also ignored the Notice to Owner. Unless you have good cause to claim you never got anything, then you'll have to pay the Charge Certificate, otherwise the council can enforce it, and bailiffs and the like could start appearing - you don't want that. For better advice on council tickets, you may want to head over to Pepipoo's Council Parking Tickets & Clamping and Decriminalised Notices forum, where they have better knowledge of these things.

Council tickets are best dealt with on pepipoo.co whereas MSE specialises in private parking tickets.

The advice to ignore has not been given out on this site since October 2012 when the law changed making keepers liable if the drivers' identity isn't known, so I'm not sure where you got your out of date information from.

For council tickets, read the FAQs on pepipoo, redact and scan the paperwork then start a new thread.

For private tickets, read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES then work out what stage you are at (too late for the initial appeal by the sound of it.)

Again, redact and scan paperwork before posting here. Upload the pics to a web hosting site such as tinypic or photobucket then post the URL here but change http to hxxp as newbies can't post live links.

Dates of the alleged event and dates of paperwork received are also useful for the experts here.

  • Thanks everyone, I'm nor really disputing the council ticket, (my son thought he had already paid it...awww) so I'll more than likely end up paying that. I'll just wait and see what happens next with the MET one.
    Thanks again...much appreciated.

    Cheers :)
  • Hi, awrightfriend

Just wondering how you got on with the parking fine from MET?
Can you post an update on this? Thanks...

awrightfriend - click on his username, check his profile!

He was a newbie, was here only in January, not coming back now. :)

You need to read PAGE ONE not this old thread. You need to read the 'NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST' thread and we won't link it because newbies need to make the forum work for them, hop around and learn from posts. You are one click away from page one.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD
