i have been buying my friut and veg in various..independant shops and markets around the area.... but i am finding its either expensive.. or if its really cheap from the likes of clydach market etc.... that it goes off within a few days.. or its got no taste what so ever.....
went to swansea market the other day... but found they were not that cheap.... plus by the time i pay for parking in swansea ..i am defeating the point....
just wondering where people find the best 'cheap' value for money when buying fruit and veg.....(.dont really want to go to the supermarkets..).... and what type and price of the bargins you have been getting.....
i know this is more of an os topic, but its the local bargins that i am after......lol.....

I know what you mean about taste. Quality too. I used to put all my fruit and veg on my supermarket delivery but more often then not it was absolute rubbish. Fruit would go bad really quickly and on a few occasions it was mouldy even when it was delivered!
I now have an allotment, although in my first year I have had limited success. I hope to do better next year. (I've had stacks of lovely pears off the tree in my garden though.) Next year it'll be £30 rental plus seed and fertiliser costs for more fruit and veg than I can eat. Well that's the plan anyway. Otherwise I'll be making regular trips to Cardiff market or Albany Road. Luckily I don't pay for parking because I go on my bike and it's a fifteen minute ride at most.
I don't know Swansea but I would think that as a rule the central market is likely to give you most value for money.0 -
We have a farmers market here in Haverfordwest but I've found it to be very expensive as it's mainly organic fruit & veg and rare breed meat. The market here is rubbish too.
Have you tried some farm shops? They sometimes have good value and good quality fruit & veg.Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
i have an allotment too... but i just havent got the time...as i have just turned my hobby into a business....so will have to give the allotment up, as its not fair to thers that are waiting for one.....
farmers markets..... yes i have been to a few.. but to be honest i think they are just inflating prices as its trendy to say to go to one....there is one farm shop which is about 15 miles away.... but again not that cheap......
there is a local market in ystradgynlais on a friday morning...( well if you can call it a market.. a few stalls ..lol...) which some things were cheap , and some things i have had that were tasteless....
i just thought as on the os board... when i started the not using supermarkets for a month.. thread.. people were saying that they had carrier bags full of fruit and veg and it worked out a £1 a carrier bag.....etc.....
so i thought i would post on here to find out where the 'bargin' places are to get stuffWork to live= not live to work0 -
If you find any, please let me know; I find the town centre market as dear as Tesco - or worse. Went to a seasonal 'pick your own' on the Gower, but not impressed as they wanted to charge for parking.
Mum says is a great independent butchers in Sketty, just across the road and around the corner from the library, so will try that once we have used up the frozen meat.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Theres a farm shop as you come from swansea/Gorseinon and go towards Gower/Dunvant .Im not very good with directions as you can tell, but if you drive past Julians shop go towards roundabout the farm shop is on your left.

It's on the roundabout that connects the roads to Garden Village, Fforestfach, Gowerton and Llewitha, and is very close to CEM Day's. I've never been there but it's been going for years so it must be ok.0 -

i have been there a few times but for me to go there again would defeat the object for the amount of petrol it would take to get there...
and to be honest it is hit and miss with the quality...... sometimes you can go there and its fantastically fresh... and then on another time it looks as though it has been there for a while..
but i love the place just for the ducks and the chickens outside..... and the cheeky cats...lol....Work to live= not live to work0 -

The summer months are obviously the best when the veg is freshly picked and abundant. We go there every week and generally find them very good.
But we grow a fair amount of our own now, we just buy the crops we can't grow because we are restricted with space.
I can recommend them.I wish you......
