Buying a catagory C car?

If you took a car in for a VIC that had had two front wings, grille, bumper, headlights, rad, inter cooler and AirCon condenser replaced with used parts it would not have passed a VIC check without proof of purchase of those parts.
That isn't my opinion that is just a fact....
Well, it's a fact that's wrong.
I took a Citroen C2 Code that I'd repaired with used parts (it actually had a bumper, two wings and a bonnet which were all different colours when it was VIC'd) and the repair and parts used were not checked.
If you wish to argue with UK.gov, then please read this:Will the VIC confirm that the vehicle is roadworthy?
No. However if any mechanical defects that would make the vehicle unsafe to drive away are identified, the vehicle may be prohibited from being used.
Will the VIC endorse the quality of any repair work?
No.

It's the more desirable Zetec S model 1.6.
Anyway here's the ebay advert for it:

The advert says it's cat c.
The wheels are not standard so perhaps the wheels were swiped at some point?0 -

The reason they only found 40 was they were less than thorough ! My nephew took our old car which had been cat d then cat c for examination in Norwich. The examiner looked at the chassis plate and stamped vin number and that was it !0 -

I can tell you it is not fact. I had the VIC checked last year and the guy couldn't even find more than one VIN and I can tell you he was not interested inb anything else. As he said if the car was wrong the last place it would be coming is to the VOSA VIC garage!0 -

I wouldn't touch that with a bargepole. Only 1 key, only partial history, a Cat C marker, ditchfinder tyres (part worn!), scuffed alloys, chipped bumper.
No pictures of the interior - who's willing to bet the bolsters are worn through and there's fag-burns all over the carpet?
No wonder it's cheap. Only 27 careful wideboy owners.0 -
So avoid this car then?:(
Didn't really get an answer other than people arguing0 -

I wouldn't go near it, personally.
It's an example of someone buying a car cheap they can't really afford, and running it on a shoestring. I mean, Jeez... part worn Chinese ditchfinders. I bet you could get new ones for £30 a corner, so he's paid, what? £5 each? £10 fitted?
What a shitbox.0 -
Have to agree with BeenThroughItAll. By the time you have spent money tidying it up you will have nearly paid the same as a non cat c.0

Well it's a real shame as I just want something a bit more sporty. Can't buy from any dealers around here as all the cars have 100k+ miles and they charge £1000 more than what the car is worth.
How about this one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-Volkswagen-Polo-1-8-T-GTI-3dr-/181991439077?hash=item2a5f88fae5:g:rZ8AAOSwVL1WDpO9
Not sure about the 120k miles though.0
