help expensive car insurance

Hi
The time has come to renew my car insurance, I am waiting for my renewal price to come through.
I have just done a quick check on google checker and the prices are ridiculous!
The cheapest is £905 with hastings.
I am 27, have held my licence since 17, no points or convictions or claims.
I have 6 years no claims bonus and my car is a 1.6 2004 ford focus.
I put the value down as £800 when asked so I would be paying more for insurance than the car is worth whilst I have held my licence for 10 years!
I do about 4000 miles per year.
can anybody help me get the price down?
thank you

Are you looking at Comprehensive Cover?0

Why so much?
I'm paying literally a sixth of that. Similar circumstances except sadly I have a few more miles on the biological clock than you.0 -
You only pay the excess if when you claim for your own repairs, it's unlikely it would be financially worth you doing it on that value car. Try quotes with a bigger excess.
Also try a higher mileage as some Insurers find drivers doing low mileage have more claims0 -
I find putting less than 4000 miles increases the premium, 4000 - 6000 makes little difference, Some are cheaper at 6000 compared to 4000 but the opposite also applies.
The excess is also a strange one, sometimes going over 400 or 500 can actually start to increase the premium.
Bad postcode maybe?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The value can sometimes pump it up. Insurers don't like older cars on the road sometimes. Other than that I can only gather you might be in a bad postcode. Have you moved recently? Have you protected your no claims bonus?0

Sometimes putting an older person as named driver brings the price down, a parent perhaps?0

Have your circumstances changed at all? What did you pay last year? Do you have a partner at the same address as you? If so adding them can reduce premiums.
Have you tried a different search engine or going direct to the companies not on there?0 -
Would be interested to know the result of the same search, but with the car value at £2,000 and 10,000 miles per year of driving.
You'd think the premium should be more, but I just wonder?0 -
Thank you everyone for replying I live with my partner in my own house and have a child under 16. My partner hasn't got a driving licence. Last year I paid £840 because that is the cheapest I could find but this is getting beyond a joke now. My circumstances haven't changed. So if I increase the miles and excess will this help? Also I chose to protect my no claims bonus.0
