There's an idea I saw floating around on Twitter (not sure exactly where) for people (men and women) to be able to draw an actuarially reduced state pension at age 60 - this might be an avenue for them to pursue - people with a reduced life expectancy due to illness could find this idea to be interesting

There are a number of practical issues that arise around that concept if available to all.

Countries allowing a reduced age / reduced payment trade off generally experience a high percentage that draw the pension as soon as possible, so that the lower bound becomes the de facto state pension age and level.

What benefits would people be entitled to who have elected to take a reduced pension? Should they be treated as having the full pension? How is qualification for pension credit handled?

You're very like Waspi in their outlook - cannot see in any way that some people may have a genuine concern over their "ask".

But you know I have said many times that the 1995 policy would not be changed. Its the 2011 policy that could be and should be changed for many.

I can see why many would be concerned over their 'ask' but to say that most of 143,000+ people signed something without knowing what they were doing is silly. It really sounds a chest beating exercise. My view is that the vast majority of those 143k would not unsign.

What I have found amusing over the last number of weeks is the immaturity of adults. Have a sensible debate regardless of what your opinions are. The detraction and minutiae has been embarrassing at times. Take steps to make something happen for the 2011 changes. WASPI got the thing in the public eye - make hay with that.

    Move forward.

I really do think you're wasting your breath (or fingers). ;)

I so agree with your first sentence - I've thought that all the way through this thread.

Well, I know my own mind and have my own opinion but when that opinion does not chide with the clique then its open season.

My mind has not swayed an inch on this. WASPI got the thing going. They were never going to get the 1995 policy reversed. The SNP and Labour knew from the outset that would not happen. They have an absolute right to ask though. It has been debated. It has not succeeded. The next steps will now be in the planning.

The next steps may focus on the 2011 changes. On the other hand, it may be that this will fade out. Who knows but if there is further discussion and debate, some will still rattle on about WASPI and facebook etc etc.

The good news is though that my typing skills have improved during the last few weeks ..... look at the positives!! :)

    And that works both ways.

It's a pity that WASPI do not embrace that idea. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I think we can now conclude the WASPI Campaign as a total failure, which has now been kicked into the long grass. It's a pity they didn't stick to the 2011 changes, they may have had a chance of gaining some momentum.

But, but, but... pensions at 60!! What about them?

Won't someone think of the (pre-)pensioners???
