MSE News: ’Women's state pension petition secures second Parliamentary debate

I think that is the one thing that just about everyone agrees on. Equalisation should occur - nobody is saying it should not.
The relative rapidity of the 2011 changes means certain groups have been disadvantaged in relation to the majority. That's the issue.
Totally agree with you.Sell £1500
2831.00/£15000 -
Do you put that down to pure coincidence?
No I don't. I'm pretty sure it did help the increase in signatures. The precise figures would never be possible to work out but I would hazard a guess that a big percentage of that 30,000 came from the MSE exposure.
Unless there are figures we can do nothing but guess.0 -
I have to agree that I read the thread on here about the petition and signed it - regretfully with hindsight.
The top one is to ban Donald Trump from entering the UK - 578,000 signatures!!
Next one is stop all immigration and to close the UK borders until ISIS is defeated!! 459,000 signatures!
I think these petitions are getting a bit of a joke!0 -

Anonymity? But that's the nature of the beast that is fora such as this one.
And the poster referring to 'baby boomers' was not having a pop at you personally. The comments were aimed at all women affected by the SPA equalisation.
I suspect this is the first taste of discussion fora that you've had.
I agree with jem16 - it would have been interesting to read your views.0 -
As a complete aside, I've just had a look at the govt petitions page.

That is true, even WASPI declare their support to equalisation - - - as long as they themselves get treated unequally and get their pensions paid from age 60 onwards. Such hypocrisy.0 -
Goldiegirl wrote: »This is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to hear a WASPI supporter comment on, in a calm and rational manner.
Has it crossed their minds that, if they got their 'ask', they'd create a situation where women born up to 31/12/59 would be treated as if they had a retirement age of 60, whereas people born from 1/1/60 still have a retirement age of 66, and from DOB April 1960 onwards, the pension age begins to rise to 67. I'd like to know their views about this, and if they realise they'd be creating a situation which another group of people would feel as if they were being treated unfarly
And I'd like to hear their views on the effect that returning to 39 years' NICs (44 for men) from the 30 needed after the 1995 legislation would have on the long term pension amounts of so many women and men who benefited from this change.0 -
Scotswimmen wrote: »Why are you still referring to me on this? The other poster you refer to was, like me, in effect, called a liar. You called me one: Missbiggles1-when I said that I was reporting the comments on here to my MP: you said: "At 10 o'clock at night, I doubt it". He was in contact with me & was very supportive in his reply via email/his ipad. He had suggested that I email him re: anything which came up regarding this issue. You also said I was "ignorant & prejudiced", based on 1 post -(I am clearly new to this by my profile), which is vindictive (I have, in fact a clutch of qualifications from a number of Universities & I am very open minded). This is not a reasonable 'debate'.You also unbelievably said: "I am a Feminist, your attitude shames all women". I have been an active Feminist all my life, supporting other women (in both paid & personal capacity) & cannot imagine another one (calling herself 'Miss'-anything)trying to publicly shame another woman, in this way, because she has a different view (I was, in the main, speaking of my personal experience in my post).
A quick glance at some of your recent posts here show a couple of people feeling aggrieved, like me, by YOUR attitude on MSE. In one you said: "Sorry I didn't mean to be critical" & in another 17th Jan 7.01/7.44, someone has complained that you: "keep coming back...like you are preying on vulnerable people or something". This person said that they felt like they'd had "a punch in the face", which is exactly how I felt.
I see you identify yourself as, 'in your 60s, worked in Education' (enjoying being 'retired' & I believe ex Maths Teacher)with a generous pension & sounds like other income. I see now why you cannot empathise with women who are disadvantaged & pensioners living in poverty, which is who I'm sticking up for.
I agree with Poppyoscar that you have been very ungracious towards me but not only that, you have discredited the word Feminism.
I apologise for the fact that you took my comments the wrong way but I can assure you that I'm the last person to be a government mole, being Old Labour and an active trade unionist all my life.
However, I have to clarify that I'm not a retired school teacher with a generous pension, I never taught Maths in my life and my name comes from a bearded collie that I used to own.:D
I also never described you as "ignorant and prejudiced" - I said that "I hate ignorance and prejudice", a view with which I would expect everybody on here (yourself included) would agree.0 -
Missbiggles: It's time you took responsibility for the way you treat people in this forum. You tried to 'shame' me -which is about silencing people who disagree & not conducive to 'debate'. I never said you/anyone else personally here was a Gov Troll-I was clarifying that Internet Forums can be distorted because they exist. No, you fall into the other category : "Give a man, or in this case, a woman, a mask and you find out who they truly are".This is a previous comment you made: "I'm in the teachers' pension scheme" so why deny you are comfortable-off compared to other women living without personal pensions/relying on SP. Looking it up to cut & paste it, I saw you write "I don't see how my response was rude" to someone else. I guessed you were a teacher (as talking about A level previously-I said wasn't sure). Your apology is not one-it's suggesting, poor wee thing that I am, I took it the wrong way.0

This is what you said;Scotswimmen wrote: »This misogyny is alive & well-look at some of the posts on this thread about women being 'lazy & greedy'. Welcome to the sad world of the internet troll. Some of them are, I understand, paid to promote divisions & disrupt debate.
It was quite clear what you were saying.Scotswimmen wrote: »You tried to 'shame' me -which is about silencing people who disagree & not conducive to 'debate'.
Which is exactly what you are trying to do.
Let us know if or when you actually want to engage in a adult conversation about the campaign.0
