Meter wrongly installed as Economy 7

I'm just trying to understand what's going on here.
Eight years ago I had a new electricity meter installed. It has somehow been classed as an Economy 7 meter, but the 'night' rate has always remained at '0'. I have always been charged the 'day' rate on all bills. Presumably if it was a true Eco meter it would at least register 1 unit on the night rate.
Is my assumption correct that I should be on a single rate tariff for electricity? Looking back at tariffs over the years, the Economy 7 rate is roughly 2-3 pence higher than the normal day rate.
Am I within my rights to claim this back as an overcharge? Over 8 years, it's almost £900.
My supplier during that time was Scottish Power, but for 12 months I have been with a new supplier trying to get them to correct this issue.
Thanks!

Was the old meter an eco 7 meter ? When they are replaced they always install another digital eco 7 meter. Some suppliers can total the two reads and bill single rate but the meter remains clocking up both day and night reads. The wiring to the meter would have to be changed to just register single rate.0

Ouch!- 1)Are you saying that your old meter was a 'Standard' meter that only recorded the amount of Kwh used, and the new meter is an ECO7 that shows both High (Day) and Low ( Night) readings.
2)Or is the case that the new meter is a 'Standard' meter and the supplier thinks it is an Eco7?
If 1 - Get onto your supplier in WRITING, though this error is neither the fault of Scot Power or your new supplier, but that of your local power distribution company, it is up to your supplier to sort out
If 2 Google "Who supplies my electricity" to get the phone number of the meter data base for your area, this will not only tell you who supplies your meter, but also what type of meter they have recorded as being in your home0 -
How is the property heated and hot watered?Do you have NSH's or an immersion heater? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
