Higher Driving Position - does it make a difference?

The disadvantage of them actually affects those of us who drive normal cars, as we can't see past the giant SUVs and their giant idiot drivers.0

I used to drive a Ka, first car I had so I didn't know any different about higher driving positions.
Now I've changed the car for one with a higher position and it really makes a difference. Specially on the odd occasion where I've managed to hurt my back and it pretty much killed me to get in the Ka, as you're practically bending over to get in them. In my current car with a sore back can slide in and out easily, and its a more natural sitting position.
Driving wise, well I had to move my parents Ford Focus the other day and compared to what I was used to, it was like looking down a tunnel...0 -
I can show you a fair few junctions where a higher driving position is
a disadvantage.
How about a nice trip around Ironbridge where a nice sign says HGVs this way and brings you out at a stupid junction where you can only turn right because its too sharp to turn left and its on a bend so anyone not driving like miss daisy is going to be wearing brown underwear.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The driving position gives far better visibility, my wife has a honda CRV and you can see so much more at junctions, roundabouts, bends etc. In my car I struggle to pull out of junctions with a standard garden fence each side as I am unable see over it.
As someone with knee problems it is also much easier to get in and out of, I often struggle quite a lot to get out of my car. Getting the children out is easier as well because you don't have to squat while holding a 16 month old with your arms outstretched.0 -

You probably need to change your driving style then.
How anyone can struggle to see at a junction or roundabout at a normal ride height is beyond me.0
