DFS failed credit check

Hi all,

Ordered a leather 3 piece on the 8th of Jan online, with DFS, paid £700 deposit, and appiled to have the remaining £695 on credit. The credit agency sent me an email today stating that I had been rejected.

Phoned DFS and asked if I could cancel, the guy never asked my name or order number, just said I have it all hear in front of me and that the order is cancelled and the refund will be refunded in 5-7 working days.

Does this sound correct or am I still liable to continue with the order?...never signed anyting as it was done online, never signed a credit agreement etc.
Just a little worried that I will get my £700 back?

Yes you should get it back. If there are any prpblems, just remind them that the sale was conditional upon finance.

They may try to tell you that you still need to complete the purchase (they used to do this a few years back) but they are not correct - not unless they want to allow you to keep to the original repayment agreement.

How did he know which/whose order to cancel if he didn't have your name or order number?

Don't mean this in a nasty way to the OP whatsoever, but I suspect not that many people would be knocked back for 600 quid finance - DFS are probably notified as soon as it's rejected so it'll likely have been the only one outstanding/to be rejected.

There is a report Administrators run which details Passes, Referrals, and Declines. DFS has 3 finance companies when you decline with one you get passed through to the next one and then the third line. If you decline with that the order needs to come off the system or be saved.

Looks as though the sales person doesn't want to try save the business by offering you a cash on deliver (which is odd considering some people would just do that, but hey their loss).

It's a strange system but basically, your order gets taken off the system - then the system knows it has £700 more than it should (since your order isn't live it doesn't account for the £700) this goes up to the Head Office Audit department who process the refund back to you. Whole process takes around 5-7 days.

If you're worried about the length of time, the stores have another report which shows any discrepancies (they get audited on this as well) and it is in there interest to have it cleared, so likely in a few days time the store will be chasing H/O on your behalf.
