Low credit rating

I recently checked my credit score and it is quite low. I have no missed payments etc etc. All seems fine. Can your credit score be affected by borrowing too much and I didnt realise that bingo sites do a credit search?? Will these two things lower my rating even though I have no defaults etc???:(
